Graham Stack says Barnet deserve occasions such as Tuesday’s League Cup tie at Wolverhampton Wanderers and believes the clash is an opportunity for the Bees to showcase their ability.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper won promotion with Wolves during his second loan spell at Molineux in 2009 and says he is looking forward to returning to the club – if he is passed fit to play against the Championship side.

However, regardless of his own involvement, the former Arsenal stopper insists the Bees have earned their crack at the much-fancied Championship outfit after winning the Conference last season and more recently, knocking Millwall out the League Cup in round one.

Speaking after Saturday’s defeat at Bristol Rovers, Stack said: “I hope, if fit, I am selected. If not, I am still looking forward to the game because a team like this deserves to be going to places like Wolves. This is what we worked hard for last season.

“It will be a great opportunity to go and showcase how good we are; a League Two club against a club trying to get into the Premier League.”

He continued: “It just goes to show how far we have come. We beat a team in Millwall recently who were playing against Bournemouth and Watford – who are now in the Premier League – last season whilst we were playing against AFC Telford and Alfreton Town, and we did them over comfortably.

“We have come a long way but we deserve to be here. That is the level we are at now and that is how good we are as a group.

“Every big game we now play can’t be [a big day out], we are justifiably there. We are not there through luck or fortune.”

The Hampstead-born keeper initially joined Wolves on loan from Reading during the 2007/08 season and spent the entire campaign with the Black Country side, making four appearances – two as a substitute in the league.

He returned in the spring of 2009 as Wanderers won the second tier title for the third time.

Reflecting on his two stints with the west Midlands outfit, Stack said: “I had a great time there. It is a cracking club and I really did enjoy my time there.

“The second time we got promoted to the Premiership so I was involved with a fantastic group of lads and a good keeper in Wayne Hennessey. I loved it there; they have a great support, are a fantastic club and I can’t wait to go back there.”

He added: “But it is not about me going back by any means, it is about us going there to try to get a result. My history with the club is put to one side and it is just another game as far as we are concerned.”
