Saracens’ Alex Goode will make his first World Cup appearance in England’s dead-rubber against Uruguay on Saturday (kick-off 8pm) whilst Owen Farrell moves to 12 and Mako Vunipola also starts.

The trio are joined by club-mate’s Jamie George, George Kruis and Richard Wigglesworth, who are all named as replacements for the clash at Manchester City FC’s Etihad Stadium.

Centre Brad Barritt misses out with an arm injury having starting the Red Rose’s first three Pool A fixtures, meaning Farrell switches to number 12 after being preferred to Bath fly-half George Ford for defeats against Wales and Australia.

Under-fire head coach Stuart Lancaster – who could be presiding over his final game as England boss – told the RFU website: “This is an opportunity for us to finish the tournament with a strong performance against Uruguay and a chance for the likes of young players such as Jack Nowell and Henry Slade to play in a World Cup.

“We owe it to ourselves and the supporters who have been brilliant throughout.

“This is an important game for rugby in the north of England and we want to give those people who have been looking forward to this game something to cheer about.”
