Barnet’s top scorer John Akinde will be fit for Saturday’s trip to local rivals Stevenage after sitting out the goalless draw with Carlisle United last weekend due to a tight hamstring.

The Bees’ number nine was rested as a precautionary measure after complaining of a tight hamstring throughout the week.

He was ruled out of the game at lunchtime and head coach Martin Allen paired Shaun Batt and Michael Gash together for the first time.

However, Akinde – who had the one-year option on his contract extended during the week – will be fit to re-claim his place up front at Broadhall Way tomorrow.

Only Graham Stack (abductor muscle) and Michael Nelson (shoulder) are sidelined with injury and both are expected back within a month.

Captain Andy Yiadom serves the second match of his three-game ban for a straight red card against Bristol Rovers a fortnight ago.

The Bees have had no problems in front of their own supporters and boast the second-best home form in League Two.

It has been an entirely different story away from home, though, with just one win meaning Barnet have the division’s worst record on their travels.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s trip up the A1(M) to face Teddy Sheringham’s side, Allen told Bees Player: “The team have done very well away from home but there have been quite a few games where we have been unlucky.

“There have been quite a few games where I think we’ve deserved something and there have been quite a few games where I think we’ve been poor, to be honest, and the performance have been very disappointing.

“So yes, there’s room for change. We played very well away at Cambridge United a couple of weeks ago and we were absolutely shocking away at Northampton Town where they absolutely smashed us.

“They totally overpowered and overran us from the first minute whereas at Cambridge I thought we were the better team on the day. Changes need to be made without a shadow of doubt.”
