Martin Allen will assess his mounting injury list before making any decisions ahead of Barnet’s next match, at Newport County, in a fortnight.

Already without John Akinde, Michael Gash, Matt Stevens, Graham Stack and Michael Nelson, the Bees weren’t helped by injuries to Sam Togwell and Gavin Hoyte in this afternoon’s goalless draw at Stevenage.

Throw in Andy Yiadom's suspension and an injury to Mauro Vilhete, whose loan at Boreham Wood expires next weekend, and the Bees have 13 fit senior outfield players left.

But with Barnet out of the FA Cup and therefore without a fixture next weekend, Allen does have the benefit of two-week break before their next game at Newport on February 6.

And that fortnight will give him the chance to decide if he needs to add to his squad before the January transfer window closes.

Speaking after this afternoon’s stalemate at Broadhall Way, Allen said: “Despite losing (Aaron) McLean, (Kevin) Lisbie, Stevens, Akinde and Gash last week, I thought we gave a great account of ourselves.

“We’ll be back in on Monday and we’ll assess all our injuries then – we’ve got a two week break until we play Newport.

“We showed fighting spirit here today.”

Allen was pleased with his side’s display against struggling Boro and revealed he had emphasised the importance of the fixture to the players in the build-up.

He said: “You wouldn’t say that we played like Brazil but I’m sure that every supporter here this afternoon would say that we played with guts and determination.

“We have an important relationship with our supporters. I reminded the players yesterday at training that we had 1,000 people coming here.

“So they were told in no uncertain terms to put on a performance to do themselves and those supporters proud.”

Allen added: “We haven’t been playing that well away from home, and we had a lot of supporters here.

“I asked the players before the game to really compete and put a shift in – for themselves and for the supporters who made the journey.”

The BBC Sport statistics, provided by Opta, say the hosts had six shots, with two on target, to Barnet’s two – one of which was on target.

But Allen still felt it was his side who could have taken all three points away from the game.

“We’ve got a lot of injuries and players missing, and Stevenage didn’t have a shot,” he said. “So it’s all credit to our players for the discipline that they showed.

“I thought that we might have nicked it with a counter-attack. But with them below us in the league you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to work out that it was an important game.

“Stevenage haven’t gained on us, and it’s another point on our total. It’s also another clean sheet despite having two players injured in the first half.

“It was a good all round performance, and the whole squad showed some real fighting spirit.”
