A "change in attitude" has helped Barnet's players enjoy a successful pre-season to date, according to head coach Martin Allen.

The Bees have won four out of four of their friendly games so far, the pick of the bunch a 1-0 win over Championship side Ipswich last Thursday, in their second season back in the Football League.

And with often cast aside results going to plan, the Barnet boss has declared himself impressed at his players' bread-and-butter training ground work since their return from summer holidays at the start of the month.

"We've had to push a little bit more than last season," Allen revealed. "There's been a change in attitude from the players.

"It was a bit different coming up after winning the title a year ago, and we've got to try to take advantage of that.

"We don't want to be saying we're unlucky not getting the points in the early games, we have got to try to impress now."

The most recent success came in their 2-0 win over Staines Town on Saturday, where four of Allen's starting 11 were aged under-20.

The Bees' boss told the Barnet Times earlier this summer he had high hopes for the younger players in his squad, and re-iterated that belief this week.

He said: "We knew they would impress and we had four on the pitch when we beat Crawley on the last day of the season. We had Harry Taylor at right-back against Ipswich, too.

"Some of the lads are ahead of the others, but that can soon change. It's a good group, and I'm excited for them this season."
