Experienced centre-back Michael Nelson has been named as Barnet's new captain for the 2016/17 season by head coach Martin Allen.

Sam Togwell will serve as Nelson's vice, with the pair both having notched up more than 400 appearances under their belt before the start of this campaign.

The armband had been up for grabs following the departure of Andy Yiadom to Barnsley at the end of his contract in June, and will be taken up by the 36-year-old, who has previously taken on the same role at Bury and Hartlepool.

Nelson has accrued some 634 professional appearances to date, including a spell at Norwich as they were promoted to the Premier League back in 2011.

His new deputy, Togwell, is in his third spell at Barnet, and could make his 500th career appearance this season.
