Potters Bar Town's record-equaling run in the FA Cup has come to an end after a 1-0 fourth qualifying round defeat to Chesham United.

The Scholars had only reached this stage in the competition once before, during the 2006/7 season, when they were knocked out by Conference side Woking.

The magic of the cup was clear at Chesham, with 777 in attendance hoping to see their team reach the first round.

But United's 14th-minute penalty proved the difference between the two sides.

Ashley Nathaniel-George fouled Benji Crilley as he cut in to the box on the flank, and Drew Roberts scored from the spot.

Despite the goal, Potters Bar remained determined, however they could not find the back of the net.

They should have done better when Michael Murray strode into the box and got to the byline, but his cutback was swept clear by the home defence.

Both teams eventually found themselves down to 10 men, after Adam Martin was given his second yellow for a challenge on Nathaniel-George, and Will Wambeek was sent off for hosts moments later.

The visitors began to get back into the game towards the end of the second half, and had two of the best chances of the game when Danny Hart, on for Murray, side-footed past the post, before shooting over the bar following a corner.

In the end, the Scholars bowed out of the competition, despite a well-organised performance against the Southern League Premier Division side.
