Wingate and Finchley were beaten for the first time in five games as they were downed 2-1 by Lowestoft Town in Suffolk.

Coming into the game on the back of a four-game winning streak, but found the stuffing knocked out of them by a first-half penalty from Ryan Jarvis and Chris Henderson's strike shortly after the hour mark.

A late Max Kyte consolation eight minutes from time proved insufficient as the Blues dropped to 14th in the table.

A slow start saw both sides cancel each other out at Crown Meadow, but the hosts began to assert some pressure as the opening half wore on, with Jake Reed's goalbound strike only ruled out by an offside flag.

Reed then headed over a corner from Frazer Blake-Tracy before Harvey Hodd was brought down in the box by Sean Cronin. Jarvis' penalty was then dispatched with confidence beyond Shane Gore for the opener.

Steve Wales' free-kick was then diverted wide by Ahmet Rifat as the half drew to a close, before Lowestoft resumed their dominance after the break.

Gore had to be alert to smother the ball ahead of Henderson as the striker strode through on goal, but could do little as the hosts extended their lead, when the tricky customer danced through the defence and finished aftera one-two with Shaun Bammant.

Finally Wingate sprung into life as Rifat forced a smart save, and substitute Kyte gave them a fighting chance in the final 10 minutes.

His close-range finish from Tanasheh Abrahams' cross set up a late chase for an equaliser, but it was not to be.

Wingate: Gore, Young, Abrahams, Vilcu, Cronin, Rifat, Wales, Ifil, Pattie (Kyte 75), Beckles, Sharpe (Laney 66).
