Boxing Day games are known for being entertaining affairs - but two early goals could do little to warm up the crowd as Wingate and Staines shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Harry Abrahams Stadium.

Tanasheh Abrahams and Adrian Clifton scored inside the opening 11 minutes in north London, in a game more notable for its missed chances than quality of play.

Rob Laney and Reece Beckles-Richards both had early efforts before Abrahams gave them the lead four minutes in with a superb volley following Laney's lay-off.

Two minutes later he showed his defensive qualities to clear a header off the line, but Staines still found themselves level soon after.

The ball fell to Clifton on the edge of the box and he fired beyond Shane Gore to equalise.

Beckles-Richards looked to have fired the Blues back in front before half-time but was denied by an offside flag, while Staines missed a pair of chances at the other ened.

The Wingate man was at it again after the hour but a flying save from Jack Turner denied him, and he was again on hand to keep out Ben Pattie's scissor kick.

Wingate stay three points above the relegation zone but have undergone a dip in form leading up to the end of the calendar year - and will hope to rectify such a slump at Dulwich Hamlet at 1pm on New Year's Eve.
