The final Saturday of the season saw Potters Bar visit Chalfont St Peter and record a resounding 4-0 victory in the Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Central.

For the opening 40 minutes, however, it looked to be turning into another frustrating afternoon for the Scholars as they recorded just one shot on target.

Chalfont were enjoying the majority of the pressure but a combination of poor finishing and solid defending meant that they were unable to find the breakthrough.

Two goals in two minutes for Potters Bar just before half-time changed the game.

With three minutes remaining before the interval, Rob Hastings ran at the defence before playing the ball to Michael Murray who hit the back of the net from the edge of the box.

And then barely 90 seconds later, Chris Doyle burst forward and played a one-two with Hastings before smashing it home to make it 2-0.

The Scholars dominated the second half and on 55 minutes, Ashley Nathaniel-George scored a quite brilliant goal.

He turned the left-back inside out, cut inside to play a one-two with Murray and then calmly slotted the ball under the advancing keeper and into the net.

The fourth goal came from a classic corner routine. Murray found Carl McCluskey at the near post and his flicked header went into the far corner of the net.

Two Potters Bar substitutes combined well to create chances for each other. First, Alfie Gibbs found Femi Ogunsola but the latter’s chipped effort cleared both the keeper and the crossbar. The pair combined again, this time Gibbs fired wide after Ogunsola’s pass.

Will Wambeek, Ryan Forde and Gibbs all had chances in the final 10 minutes but they couldn’t add to the score line.

Assistant Manager James Duncan came on for his seasonal appearance as the curtain fell on a successful season for Potters Bar. They finished in a club record high position at Step 4 of ninth.

Their 62-point haul was also a new best at this level as was a positive goal-difference, of +10. The club also reached the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup for only the second time in its history.

The new season will start on 12th August.
