Barnet golfer Andrew Johnston tied for 27th at The Open at Royal Birkbeck last weekend, after a tough final round left him one over-par.
Johnston finished joint eighth at the competition last year, and in his second attempt at the British-based major began his weekend well, ending the first day one-under, thanks to three birdies and an eagle on the challenging par-five 17th.
He made the cut with ease despite holing a four-over 74 on the second day, including three bogeys, and a two-over seven on the penultimate hole, which had given him so much joy on Thursday.
He returned to form in style on Saturday, registering four birdies and only a single bogey to bring his 54-hole score back to par going into the final day.
A good score on the final day would have given the North Middlesex golfer a shot at a place, but three bogeys inside the first 13 holes put paid to that goal, leaving him with a respectable one-over for the weekend, and tied for 27th.
