A Barnet XI signed off their pre-season schedule with a morale-boosting 3-0 win at National League South side Hampton & Richmond Borough as two goals from Nana Kyei and one from Fumnaya Shomotun secured a comfortable victory at the Beveree Stadium.

Led by first-team coach Junior Lewis and sporting a youthful side comprising some first teamers and a selection of trialists, Barnet registered the goal their bright start deserved when Kyei powered through the Hampton defence and finished well beyond Tom Lovelock.

Three minutes before the break the Bees and Kyei doubled their tally with another fine solo effort that evaded several defenders, finishing up in the bottom corner in a carbon copy of the first goal.

Both sides rang the changes in the second half with the visitors’ trialist goalkeeper on top form to stop former Watford midfielder Matty Whichelow from halving the deficit.

Their superiority would eventually show through on the scoreline, too, with a third goal arriving 13 minutes from time courtesy of Shomotun who buried Malakai Hinckson-Mars’ cross after Benji Aghadiuno had failed to get his shot away.

The win ensures the club will head into Saturday’s National League opener at Aldershot Town in fine fettle.

“It’s always good to have a clean sheet,” Lewis told the club website. “It’s still pre-season so it was good to have another run out and the opportunity to give the gaffer [John Still] a headache for Saturday.

He added: “They [the players] can’t wait, they feel like they’ve got the hard work out the way now. They’re hungry and ready to go.”
