Barnet have started life back in the National League with a goalless draw at Aldershot.

John Still’s side made a bright start to their first game back in the fifth tier of the English game following their EFL relegation last season, with Medy Elito curling an effort narrowly wide in the fifth minute.

Although Jakob Berkeley-Agyepong hit an angled drive narrowly wide, the visitors were close to taking a first-half lead when Dan Sparkes hit the bar after half-an-hour and the under-pressure Charlee Adams blazed over from the rebound.

Still’s side continued to look the more likely after the break, but Sparkes and Byron Harrison were unable to make the most of late opportunities.

Barnet: Cousins; Alexander, Johnson, Sparkes, Adams, Robson, Harrison, Fonguck (Taylor 60), Elito (Mason-Clark 80), Walker (Coulthirst 60), Sweeney. Subs not used: Matrevics and Tutonda.
