Hendon have enjoyed an unbeaten start to their Evo-Stik League South Premier Division South campaign, building on a 1-1 draw at Frome Town with a 3-0 home victory over Hartley Wintney.

The opening week would have been even better for the Greens had it not been for Frome equalising in the final two minutes of normal time in Saturday’s first game of the season.

Hendon had broken the deadlock in the 69th minute when a Luke Tingey long throw caused panic in the home defence, Taishan Griffith drilled the ball across and it broke for Ricardo German, who still had plenty of work to do but did very well to curl his finish over the goalkeeper and three defenders.

However, the visitors were unable to hold on for the win as after twice failing to deal with a corner, another shot came in and the ball was adjudged to have crossed the line following an unsuccessful attempted block.

Although Tuesday’s scoreline did not reflect a game in which Hendon keeper Danny Boness was forced to make some key saves, including a penalty, the hosts made the breakthrough in the 17th minute when Tingey powered home a header from a Lee Chappell corner.

The advantage was to be doubled eight minutes later in some style when German was released down the left and after stepping past one challenge, he was faced by two more defenders as he angled towards the goalline. After beating those two, another pair closed in but a majestic stepover took them out of the game as well, allowing German to calmly roll the ball into the net.

The complexion of the contest could have changed in the 37th minute when Walton were awarded a penalty, but Kyron Farrell was unable to beat Boness from 12 yards.

Hendon’s third was to come just past the hour mark when, after bursting into the area, Stephane Ngamvoulou passed to the unmarked Tyriq Hunte, who angled his finish inside the far post.
