Old Elizabethans (Barnet) CC played host to the Barnet Primary Schools Kwik Cricket tournament for the Eric Shearly Cup, where over 250 cricket-mad youngsters from across the whole borough descended upon the club.
The tournament was organised by the Barnet School Sports Partnership in conjunction with the Old Elizabethans (Barnet) CC and Middlesex Cricket.
The day began early with all ten kwik cricket pitches being used to play the group matches. Schools were divided into pools according to their partnerhip - Barnet Central, East, West and South.
The early matches saw some excellent cricket with all of the boys and girls enjoying the competition. The top two schools from each pool went through to the last eight, knockout stages.
After four tough and well-contested quarter finals, Moss Hall Juniors, Christchurch, Fairway and The Independent Jewish Day School reached the semi-finals.
Superb batting and bowling meant The Independent Jewish Day School and Moss Hall then made it to the final.
The final was very close, and some excellent bowling from Moss Hall meant The IJDS were restricted to a hard-fought 234 runs. Moss Hall were last year's Barnet winners and went into the final as favourites. However, a remarkable fielding display, which included two superb run outs, helped the IJDS to a memorable victory.
Phil and Jim Shearly were on hand to present the beautiful silver trophy, in memory of their late father, Eric, and long time school master at Queen Elizabeth's Boys' School, Barnet.
