Fairclough's Barnet roller-coaster ride

8:12am Sunday 5th October 2008

Barnet manager Paul Fairclough admitted he went through a range of emotions during his side's 2-1 win over Accrington Stanley.

Captain Ismail Yakubu won it just a minute after John O'Flynn had missed a penalty.

Fairclough said: "Football is an emotional game. The whole game was enapsulated in 30 seconds. To be awarded a penalty was fantastic, then we missed it and hit rock bottom. Thirty seconds later we were on a high again after scoring."

However, Fairclough was disappointed the Bees let Accrington back into the game, after O'Flynn had set them on their way within a minute of the kick off.

"It was good to get a great start. We started where we left off at Grimsby. It was a scintillating cross from Albert Adomah and a fine finish. It was the classic winger/striker-partnership goal.

"But we sat back, took a step backwards and, in fact, deteriorated quite badly. It took quite a bit of hard work at half-time to lift a very flat team, having just conceded."

However, he was delighted with the response.

"That win last week at Grimsby has given us some inspiration and we clawed ourselves back.

"It was not a great performance and no one is getting carried away. The most important thing is to win at the moment. It's all about confidence and that's bred from winning games."
