Talented young athletes from Barnet have been awarded grants from the GLL Sport Foundation.
Already showing potential as emerging or established national and international talent, the 21 will receive significant funding for training, competition travel and equipment during 2008.
The successful applicants were presented with certificates at an event held at Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre.
Councillor John Marshall, the mayor of Barnet, said: “I hope that they will all put this extra funding to good use as they turn their eyes towards the next Olympics and Paralympics here in London.”
The athletes are: Athletics: Matthew Sullivan, Jade Attoh, Tommy Bryant, Richard Goodman, Niall Fleming, Sophie Connor, Junior Ejehu, Jo Ankier, Tom Peacock. Diving: Jess Wiltshire. Fencing: Amy Hyman. Gymnastics: Connor Dutton, Gabrielle Jupp, Shannon Nichols. Swimming: Christopher Matthew Eddon, Madeleine Tichborne, Oliver Keegan, Nicola Burlingham, Table tennis: Reece Tan, William Maybanks. Wheelchair basketball: Tyler Saunders.
