An impressive Barnet made it a second consecutive win and their first on their travels at Plainmoor this afternoon.
An Albert Adomah free-kick, which no one managed to get a touch to, was all that seperated the sides in an entertaining League Two clash.
Keeper Jake Cole made a couple of good saves as the Gulls pressed in the second half, but the visitors were good value for the win.
The Bees have a good record at Torquay in recent years and this was another fruitful trip to the English Riviera, despite going into the game with a number of key players missing through injury.
Barnet boss Ian Hendon was forced to make a number of changes. With Daniel Leach and Gary Breen ruled out, Clovis Kamdjo came into the centre of defence for his debut. Ahmed Deen started at left-back for Kenny Gillet.
However, there was a return for Mark Hughes in midfield, while John O'Flynn was named as one of the substitutes.
The hosts started the better, but the Bees soon got into their stride and enjoyed plenty of possession.
The pace of the visitors was causing the home defence lots of problems, particularly on the break.
The deadlock was broken on 26 minutes after Albert Jarrett had been fouled by Chris Todd. Adomah took the free-kick which appeared to hit the back of the net without anyone in the crowded penalty area getting a touch.
Adomah soon found the net again, after a nice Barnet move, but the flag was up for offside on this occasion.
The Bees certainly deserved their advantage going in at the break. Though they were playing with a makeshift defence, they generally defended well and Torquay struggled to create clear-cut chances.
Things picked up where they left off after the break, with both sides going in search of a goal.
The Gulls were forced to pick up the pace, but the Bees continued to shut them out. However, keeper Jake Cole was not surprisingly a little busier after the interval.
There were plenty of openings at the other end too, the visitors not content to rest on their laurels.
Though Barnet could not add to their tally, they managed to hold on at the other end in what was another very encouraging display, which lifted Hendon's troops well into the top half of the table.
