Bees set for Hereford visit

Barnet fans are starting to dream of FA Cup glory, but manager Ian Hendon knows where his priorities lie.

Though he shares a desire to land one of the big guns in a later round of the greatest knockout competition, pushing for promotion is more important.

And, with two successive home league games coming up, the Bees - still unbeaten on home soil - have the perfect chance to kick on.

Hendon, speaking after Saturday's 3-1 FA Cup first-round triumph over Darlington, admitted he would rather three points against Hereford United in the league this Saturday.

"I'll take three points over this (Darlington victory), to be fair," he said.

With Barnet still struggling on their travels, it is vital they carry on winning at Underhill.

"Our home form is going to be key," Hendon added.

The home games against Hereford, not great travellers, and Port Vale, seven days later, will both be seen as winnable.

Currently eighth in the table, a place in the play-offs is starting to look like a real possibility for Hendon's troops.

The Bees go into Saturday's match hoping to have shrugged off a flu bug, which forced five players to miss training on Tuesday. The team had a day off yesterday and Hendon was due to assess the situation today.

Though the league is the priority, a good cup run is not to be sniffed at either.

Barnet enjoyed a comfortable passage into the second round and now stand one tie away from the third round, when the Premier League clubs enter.

Hendon had wanted a home tie in round two, so a long trip to League Two rivals Accrington Stanley proved to be something of a disappointment when the draw was made on Sunday.

However, he was quick to point out: "It could have been worse. It's winnable."
