Bury 2 Barnet 0

It was the same old story for Barnet at Gigg Lane this afternoon.

The Bees slipped to another defeat on their travels, a goal in first-half stoppage time and a second late on enough to make it another disappointing away-day.

Though unbeaten on home soil, this was Barnet's sixth consecutive league defeat on their travels, their last three points coming back in September.

After last Saturday's draw at Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup, there were high hopes the Bees had turned the corner, but it was not to be.

And, to rub salt into the wounds, Mark Hughes received a second yellow card in second-half stoppage time, leaving the Bees to finish the game with just ten men.

There was just one different name in the Barnet side that started against Bournemouth on Tuesday, with Nicky Deverdics coming in for the on-loan Calum Butcher.

The first half was an even affair and the Bees would have been satisfied with their efforts, the home side having been successfully shut out.

But it all went wrong in stoppage time, when Andy Morrell was fouled in the box by Hughes.

Daniel Nardiello stepped up to the spot to give the Shakers the lead.

It was the second penalty Barnet had conceded in two games, but, on this occasion, keeper Jake Cole was unable to pull off the save.

It was the worst possible time to concede a goal, and a little cruel on the Bees.

Though Bury probably just edged the opening period in terms of chances, there was little between the two teams.

Barnet's best opportunity of the half fell to Albert Adomah, but he saw his effort blocked.

The goal not surprisingly gave the hosts a massive lift and they came out for the second half with a spring in their step.

It was important the Bees kept it tight early on, as they knew a second goal would probably put an end to any hope of getting something from the game.

As the second half progressed, Barnet were forced to push forward more and it became a more open affair.

Wingers Adomah and Jarrett saw plenty of the ball, but the visitors struggled to create clear-cut chances.

With just under 20 minutes to go, Hendon threw on subs Yannick Bolasie (for Jarrett), Jake Hyde (for Craig McAllister) and Paul Furlong (for Adomah) in a bid to change things.

But Bury finally grabbed the killer second goal nine minutes from time, David Worrall capitalising on poor defending to seal the points.
