Ryman League Division One North . . .

Northwood exacted revenge over Wingate & Finchley for their September FA Cup defeat with a comfortable away victory.

On a heavily rainy day where every other match in the division was called off, The Blues will be wishing their pitch was not quite so resilient to the conditions, as they were outclassed by their North-London neighbours.

The visitors got off to a flying start when they were awarded a dubious penalty in the tenth minute, when Daniel Nielsen was adjudged to have brought down Scott Orphanu inside the box. Burrell placed his kick to the bottom left of goal and the fingertips of Gavin King could not keep it out.

The lead was doubled in the 24th minute with a swift counter attack. After a Wingate & Finchley move had broken down, Northwood went on the offensive through the middle of the pitch and Leon Osei was given the ball when left in space on the right and he calmly curled it into the far corner.

Northwood put in more effort and retained possession, and the second half continued the same as the first, as they sealed their win just after the hour mark when a corner was deflected out to the edge of the area and full-back Chris Seeby shot the ball like an arrow into the bottom corner.

After the referee gave Ahmet Rifat a second yellow card that was inconsistent with how he had previously refereed the game, Wingate & Finchley’s players’ heads dropped. Burrell then scored a fourth goal in the 75th minute with a side-footed finish having beaten the offside trap by a country mile.

James Edgerley had a good chance to score a consolation for the home side but he hooked his shot wide of the post.

WINGATE: Gavin King, Marc Weatherstone, Daniel Nielsen, Jordan Fowler, Frankie Webb, Ahmet Rifat, Jake Furman (Rob Ursell 46), Michael Lenahan, Leon Smith (Aynsley McDonald 63), Dave Laird, Chris Chase (James Edgerley 56).
