Barnet 1 Cheltenham Town 1

Barnet had to settle for a share of the spoils at Underhill this afternoon.

With Cheltenham below them in the table, it was important they at least never lost.

Either side could have won it after the break, both goals having come in the first half.

Albert Adomah, back to his best, cancelled out a goal from the visitors, and almost won it for the Bees late on, his volley striking the crossbar.

But, in the end, a point was all Barnet had to show for their efforts and does not really help either side in their battle to move away from the drop zone.

Barnet boss Ian Hendon recalled wingers Adomah and Albert Jarrett, while there was also a place for Ryan O'Neill in the right-back position, Kenny Gillet dropping to the bench.

Mark Hughes missed the game through suspension, the on-loan David Livermore filling his central midfield position.

It was a quiet start, with little goalmouth action in the opening stages.

The first chance did not come until the 12th minute. Adam Lockwood freed Jake Hyde down the right with a super cross-field ball, but the striker saw his shot beaten away by keeper Scott Brown.

Adomah then shot just wide after making room for himself, as the Bees looked to step up the pace.

John O'Flynn was denied by a point-blank save by Brown, the Irishman almost turning home a deep Jarrett centre.

But it was Cheltenham who struck on 20 minutes with their first chance of the game. Josh Low got to the byline and rolled the ball across the goal, Matt Thornhill with the easiest task of touching it in from just a couple of yards. It was a simple goal and a poor one to concede from Barnet's point of view.

The Bees had been looking the likelier to break the deadlock and, to their credit, the goal did not really knock them off their stride.

Adomah fired wide again, before a Jake Hyde looping header cleared the bar.

And the deserved equaliser came ten minutes before the interval, Adomah finding the very top corner with a crisp shot from a central position after O'Flynn had won the ball and teed him up.

The Robins almost struck at the start of the second half, Theo Lewis planting a free header wide within a minute. He should have done better.

At the other end, O'Flynn found the net for Barnet, but the flag was raised for offside.

Cheltenham also had an effort ruled out shortly after, Low this time denied by the officials.

The Bees lost their way a little in the second half, the visitors looking much more of a threat.

It looked like it could go either way, as the game entered the closing stages.

With 15 minutes to go, veteran Barry Hayles was just wide for the Robins with a neat bicycle kick.

Adomah thought he had won it for the home side with a cracking volley from 12 yards that bounced off the underside of the bar and on to the line. The referee was adamant it had not crossed the line, however.
