Barnet 0 Bury 0

Barnet edged closer to safety with a hard-fought point at home to Bury this afternoon.

Though there were no goals, both sides played their part in an excellent contest.

The first half was of a particularly high standard and it was clear the promotion-chasing visitors were one of the best teams to come to Underhill this season.

Both sides had chances to win it, but a point each was probably the fairest outcome in the end.

Barnet boss Ian Hendon made just one change from the side that lost to Bournemouth on Tuesday.

Veteran Gary Breen returned to the heart of the defence, with David Livermore moving to midfield. Mark Hughes dropped to the bench.

The Bees almost broke the deadlock on five minutes. John O'Flynn arrived at the near post to meet an Albert Adomah corner. His shot was parried by keeper Wayne Brown and the Bury shotstopper did brilliantly to save again from point-blank as Jake Hyde and Clovis Kamdjo attempted to stab the ball home from a few yards.

It was a superb double save.

Brown then had to pull off a flying save to deny Adomah, Barnet starting the game very confidently.

Bury should have scored themselves on 12 minutes, but David Worrall screwed his shot wide with just Jake Cole to beat. It was a bad miss.

It was end to end stuff, both sides playing their part in an entertaining affair.

Midway through the half, a quickly taken free-kick found Ryan Lowe and he hit the inside of the post, the home defence left standing.

The Shakers were getting behind the Barnet backline, but there was no-one on the end of the cross on numerous occasions.

With ten minutes of the first half to go, Matt Lockwood was forced to clear a Ben Futcher header off the line in what proved to be the final chance of a highly enjoyable first period.

There were fewer chances in the second half, but both sides were still giving their all.

On the hour, Brown did well to hold a powerful Adomah drive, while Albert Jarrett crashed a shot wide from the left a few minutes later.

At the other end, Michael Jones curled a free-kick wide, while Cole had to beat out an Andy Bishop shot.

In the final minute, Jarrett flashed a shot across the face of the goal, but it was not to be.
