Jeanette Bain-Burnett, of East Barnet, is swimming three miles or more a day this month to raise £3,000 for UNICEF’s Haiti earthquake appeal.
Jeanette, 31, was born in London, but spent her childhood in Jamaica, which is 100 miles from Haiti.
Like many others, she has been moved by the recent disaster, especially because of its proximity to her childhood home.
“I try to work out at the gym as much as I can, but I’ve never done anything like this before. I started on February 27th, and have done 20 miles so far. I swim morning and evening most days and I have a few all-dayers ahead of me if I’m going to meet my 100-mile target by March 31. It’s a huge mental and physical challenge for me and I will probably be permanently looking like a prune, but I wanted to do something extraordinary for this cause.”
