Bees boss hails 'hard work and discipline'

BARNET boss Mark Stimson insisted the team’s first victory of the League Two season against Cheltenham at Underhill on Saturday was down to ‘hard work and discipline’.

After falling behind inside a minute from a stunning Frankie Artus 30-yard free-kick, the Bees rallied and rarely looked troubled at the back, while Steve Kabba, Phil Walsh and Mark Marshall wreaked havoc up front.

Walsh got on the end of Marshall’s delivery for the equaliser, before connecting with Ricky Holmes’ corner after the break. Marshall then capped a man-of-the-match performance with a third ten minutes from time.

Stimson said of the display: “It’s nice not to get beat at home and to get the win was good, especially for the players. They’ve had a hard couple of weeks and there’s been a few home truths said. But they’ve dealt with it fantastically.

“They’re an honest bunch, a bit naïve at times and they’ve got to learn but they give us everything they’ve got. You could see that today. A few were tightening up with cramp towards the end and that’s because of the hard work they’re putting in. They got their rewards and it was thoroughly deserved.”

Stimson also paid tribute to the ‘back six’, who were solid throughout and the ‘front four’, who caused Cheltenham all sorts of problems.

“This week we went for it,” he added. “We had six at the back and we told them to sit, be solid and not give anything away. We had four up front and we told them to go and show the supporters that you can all play, you’ve all individually got something and they all brought their game to the table.”
