Third straight defeat for Bees

Accrington Stanley 2 Barnet 1 . . .

Three games and three defeats.

It is a far cry from this time last season when Barnet were moving towards the top of the League Two table.

Conference champions Accrington, themselves without a point at the start of play, brushed aside a lacklustre Barnet side to claim their first win since their return to the big time.

The sorry Bees can have few complaints. They were again poor as an attacking unit and had to rely on centre-back Simon King for their last-minute consolation.

Two goals from Romauld Boco sealed the points and left the Bees in the bottom three.

And it all started so positively. For the first 15 minutes, Barnet looked the better side.

Dean Sinclair almost put them ahead on three minutes when he connected to a Nicky Bailey cross at the near post, but his effort was cleared off the line.

Stanley finally roused themselves and almost struck with their first chance, Michael Welch heading wide at the back post on 17 minutes.

Moments later Paul Mullin put a header straight into the arms of Lee Harrison.

The hosts should have scored on the half-hour but Gary Roberts struck the foot of the post after sliding in to meet an Ian Craney shot that flashed across the face of the goal.

The inevitable opener came three minutes later. Paul Warhurst could only help on a long clearance from keeper Ian Dunbavin and Boco nipped in to lob Harrison.

Liam Hatch should have equalised when he was put through by a Tresor Kandol flick but Danbavin was out quickly to save at his feet.

Barnet's best chance came seven minutes after the interval. Nicky Nicolau combined with Bailey down the left and the latter's low cross asked to be stroked home, but Kandol somehow sliced the ball wide from just three yards.

It was to prove costly. A minute later Harrison could only parry a Craney shot and Boco slammed home the rebound.

Barnet tried to rally. Debutant Barry Cogan hit a bouncing shot across the face of goal and just wide, while King saw an effort cleared off the line after a Bailey free-kick reached him at the back post.

But Accrington also had further chances. Boco clipped the bar and Harrison tipped over a speculative Mullin effort.

The Bees finally scored in the 89th minute. Bailey made room for himself and his shot was only parried into the path of King who rammed the ball in through a crowd of players.

Sub Richard Graham put the only further chance wide and Stanley comfortably held on to take the points.
