With only six points from their opening six games Barnet fans would be forgiven for thinking it is going to be another hard season in League Two but Lawrie Sanchez believes his side have not got the results the performances deserved.

The Bees could only manage a home 0-0 draw in the weekend’s game against Accrington Stanley despite the visitors finishing the game with just nine men.

Barnet were missing striker Izale McLeod, who was suspended, and Sanchez was left frustrated with the lack of chances his side created.

He said: “The result was extremely disappointing. I don’t think we played that well and the home fans have not really seen the form we are showing on the road.

“We didn’t pass the ball as well as we like but that did improve when they went down to 10 men. But we did not really create chances.”

Stanley were reduced to ten men shortly before half time and lost another man minutes the final whistle.

The Bees’ boss said he believed the referee had made the correct decision on both occasions.

“The first one I think it was a reckless challenge and the player has caught Kabba so I understand why the referee sent him off.

“But the second one has saved them three points because Charlie Taylor was through and assuming he would have been able score we would have got the win.

“I don’t think you can have any complaints about that one because the centre-half has won them a point” he added.

Sanchez said in his programme notes before the game that matches Barnet had been involved this season had an average of 3.5 goals per game.

So it was perhaps inevitable that a Barnet game would finish goalless for the first time this season.

Sanchez said: “It is ironic that I talk about keeping clean sheets and when we do, we can’t score a goal at the other end.

“We missed Izale McLeod today and Kabba has been off all week suffering with an illness and he was 50/50 if he was going to play.

“We did not have the pace to our play today and nine games in August, six of them away and staying overnight at three of them, has been a hard slog.

“But all of the speed in our game against Colchester on Tuesday was not there today.”

It was a game where clear cut chances were hard to come by but Sanchez said he will be taking the positives from the match, including an assured performance from Darren Dennnehy.

“It showed the quality that everyone knew he had when he signed for the club last year. We will have to see how the injury reacts because he played in pre-season and there was a reaction.

“But it is great to see him back because if we can get people like Darren back on the pitch we will be able to resolve the clean sheet issue” said Sanchez.

The Bees have yet to win at Underhill this season drawing two and losing one of their three games.

It is in stark contrast to the away form which has seen the Bees knock higher league opposition out of cup competitions on two occasions and only lose one game in League Two.

The former Northern Ireland boss said he is going to sit down and try to think about why the side are performing better on the road.

He added: “We have six points from six games which, for the amount of effort we have put in and the goals we have scored, is not a good enough return.”
