Hendon’s Middlesex Senior Cup tie against Hanworth Villa was postponed this morning, with the Vale Farm pitch still blanketed by snow and the turf frozen below it.
A delay of 24 hours would have had little effect, particularly with the air temperature not expected to rise more than a degree or two above zero.
With landlords Wembley having a home match already scheduled for February 14, Hendon have rescheduled the tie against Hanworth for Tuesday, February 21 (kick-off 7.45pm).
The Greens’ match against Billericay Town on Monday will go ahead as planned, weather permitting.
The next Hendon match is scheduled for Saturday, the Ryman League Premier Division fixture against Cray Wanderers (kick-off 3pm).
The long-range weather forecast for the weekend suggests that it may be the least cold day of the past week or so, but the top temperature is not expected to be more than a few degrees above freezing and it may not allow the frozen pitch to thaw out in time for the game to be played.
