Keeper scoops two awards

3:40pm Friday 25th May 2012

Goalkeeper Bobby Smith was the big winner on Saturday as Wingate & Finchley held their end of season awards night.

The shot-stopper picked up two prizes after being named both Player of the Season as well as Players’ Player of the Season.

Namesake Leon was also a dual-winner, claiming the Golden Boot Award in addition to the Board of Directors’ Player award.

Also recognised on the night were David Laird (Supporters’ Player), David Smouha (Young Player) and Paul Lerman (Clubperson).

The first team enjoyed a memorable debut campaign at Ryman Premier Division level with a 13th place finish under manager Dave Norman but the night also celebrated the success of the youth teams.

Picking up the Player of the Season award for the Under-13s through to the FLEX (Football Learning and Excellence) squad respectively were Toby Symes, Jack Jarvis, Andrew White, Tom Lyne, Galilee Alves, Jamie Dickens, Karl Stevenson and Anderson Pinto.

For the same squads, the Most Improved Player winners were Louis Cuffaro, Tom Light, Cameron Ferguson, Nathan Sollosi, Andrew Stewart, Cameron Wallis, Andrew Layton and Oliver Noel.

The following day, the Under-18s side were celebrating again as they completed a double-winning season by claiming the London County Cup with a 3-0 victory over Old Lady Youth.

A superb solo effort and finish from distance saw man-of-the-match Smouha complete a brace before Seb Garber headed in late on to round off the win and add the trophy to the AFA Cup success in March.
