Former Barnet loanee Paul Downing will not be offered a new contract by Premier League side West Bromwich Albion.

The 20-year-old defender made 32 appearances while at the Bees this season, playing his part in the club’s League Two survival.

He joined Barnet in November and alongside Reading loanee Michael Hector, helped steady a Bees defence.

The Baggies Sporting & Technical Director, Dan Ashworth, told the club’s official website: "Paul has been with us since he was ten years old and has been a great servant to the football club.

"We feel by staying up for a third successive year the bar has been raised and it is best if he is allowed to explore opportunities elsewhere.

"He had a really good loan spell in League Two last season and we wish him well for the future."
