Edgware tennis club unveil clubmark plaque

More than 200 members and guests of The Drive Lawn Tennis Club in Edgware attended an award ceremony on Sunday unveiling a special clubmark plaque.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Barnet, Brian and Lynda Schama, witnessed Brenda Stewart from the Middlesex LTA congratulating the club on their achievements.

The clubmark status ensures that the club is providing the very best in coaching and facilities.

The celebrations where organised on the finals day and the Mayor, a keen tennis player, was delighted to present awards from the days matches, particularly to the junior contestants who participated in the club's first ever junior tournament.

A special award was created by members of the club to celebrate the life of a much loved member who passed away last year.

Bernice Cowan’s 90-year-old father presented 15-year-old Daniel Miller from Edgware, who attends Yavneh school, with the Bernice Cowan award for ‘the most improved junior of the year’.

Brian Schama said: "It’s been a wonderful day and it’s so good to visit such a friendly and well supported local tennis club."
