Stanmore clinch Southgate win
1:47pm Wednesday 25th July 2012 in Sport
Stanmore battled to a 41-run win at Southgate in Middlesex Division One.
The visitors batted first and found life tough going as they could only manage a total of 122 in 54 overs. Opener Steve Mehra hit 19 and there were useful contribitions from Marc Reingold (32) and Nicholas Goh (35).
But the key to their victory was the performance of bowler Mukesh Bhatt as his side managed to dismiss hosts Southgate for a mere 81 in 53.2 overs. Bhatt was in sensational form for Stanmore as he single-handily destroyed the opposition.
He ended with figures of eight for 33 from 22.2 overs. Reingold picked up two for 31 as Stanmore picked up an impressive away success.
Meanwhile, Finchley suffered a six-wicket defeat to Eastcote.
After winning the toss, Eastcote opted to bowl first and they managed to dismiss Finchley for 196 in 65 overs. Frahan Butt steadied the ship down the order as he scored 35 off 32 balls. George Charlton struck 26 while Jake Milton and Joshua Knappet both managed 23 apiece for Finchley.
The match looked to be in the balance at this stage but Eastcote took it away from them as a strong battling display saw them reach the target for the loss of four wickets.
Butt had the best economy with one for 29 while Udena De Silva, Milton and Hamza Qayyum took the other wickets.
