Lee McConnell and Shana Cox both failed to progress to the Olympic 400m final this evening.
Woodford Green with Essex Ladies competitor Cox ran in lane eight of semi final two but could only manage seventh position, crossing the line in 52.58.
McConnell, who runs with Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, recorded a quicker time but could also only manage seventh position, clocking 52.24 in the third semi final.
Speaking after the race, McConnell said: “It’s disappointing. I am very disappointed to have run that time.
“I really could have hoped for better but it was just such a quick race in the middle of the field.”
She added: “I am really happy to have competed in front of such a crowd. It is what I have wanted since London was announced. It was a fantastic experience.”
There was some joy for Britain though as Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu advanced from the first semi final, recording a season’s best of 50.22 to reach tomorrow’s final.
