Former England Ray Wilkins captain attends Edgware football festival

Budding footballers from Edgware recently took part in a football skills festival attended by former England captain Ray Wilkins.

The event was part of the FA Tesco Skills Programme which hopes to get 4.7 million children across the UK involved in a sporting activity by 2014.

The scheme, which is supported by Wilkins and Horne, is dedicated to raising the standard of football at grassroots level. On the day the children were taken through various skills and games by some of the programme’s top FA qualified coaches.

FA General SecretaryAlex Horne said: “The FA Tesco Skills Programme is really beneficial for 5-11 year olds and provides a great environment for learning.

"The kids are learning new things on the programme and it’s the embedding of these skills which is fundamental in the development of youth players.”
