Cockfosters drew 0-0 with newly promoted Southall in their opening fixture of the Spartan League season.

Cockfosters were looking to build on their season opening FA Cup win against Sporting Bengal United, whilst Southall had previously recorded a convincing victory against Stony Stratford Town.

However, despite both teams in goal scoring form, the game didn’t live up to the expectations.

The first-half was a cagey affair with very little action in either penalty area as both defences dealt with any threat.

The first real chance for Southall came in the second-half when the away side were given too much space allowing a fiercely struck volley to slam against the post and fortunately away to safety. The clearest chance of the game came with 13 minutes left when Garry Jallow in the Southall goal dropped the ball at the feet of Dave Pigden whose first time effort went agonisingly wide.

Cockfosters will now look to build on the performance when they take on Cranfield United on Saturday.
