Barnet v Gillingham - Preview

Barnet will be hoping to spoil Martin Allen’s return to Underhill this afternoon when his top-of-the-table Gillingham side take on the Bees.

Allen, who has had three spells in charge at Barnet, helped the Bees avoid relegation from the Football League during a three game stint at the end of last season.

Mark Robson is expecting the Gills to prove a stern test for his Barnet side, who have yet to claim victory this season.

He said: “Martin Allen helped keep the club up, not for the first time I am going to say. He did a good job while he was here in terms of keeping the club in the league.

“I’m sure he will bring a strong Gillingham side to Underhill and we know we will be in a tough game.”

Bees goalkeeper Graham Stack believes that the few Barnet players that remain from last season will have a point to prove against the Gills.

“They are top of the league and Martin Allen’s teams, as Barnet fans will know from his time here, are well drilled, very regimental and will be hard to beat – as a lot of teams are in this league.

“I don’t think they will be too fussed about how they will get a result and he will have a point to prove when he comes back to Barnet.

“But there are a few lads in the dressing home who will also have a point to prove and we will try to get a result,” the keeper added.

David Stephens could make his debut for the Bees while Jon Nurse is also available after overcoming concussion.
