Hendon hit the Rocks against East Thurrock United

Hendon are still searching for their first Ryman Premier Division win of the season after going down 2-0 against East Thurrock United on Saturday.

The Greens made a fairly bright start to the contest and Greg Ngoyi saw a close-range effort well saved by Richard Wray in the United goal.

The Rocks began to take a stranglehold on the contest and Greens goalkeeper Berkley Laurencin had to save a strike from Kye Ruel.

Hendon struggled to make an impact in the half and went behind on 32 minutes as Hakeem Araba whipped in a cross and Ryan Wharton headed into the net.

East Thurrock then nearly doubled the scoreline. Sam Higgins’ free-kick was well stopped by Laurencin before he saved an effort from Ruel.

The Rocks deserved their lead at the interval and came close to extending the advantage on 49 minutes.

Higgins was unmarked in the box and his header from five years was well saved by Laurencin before he blocked the rebound from Araba.

East Thurrock finally manage to kill off the game as a long clearance downfield was not dealt with by Kevin MacLaren, and Higgins fired into the net to secure the three points.
