Oakleigh Park Tennis and Squash Club hold finals day

With summer coming to an end, Oakleigh Park Tennis and Squash Club held their tennis finals on Saturday with strong competition throughout the different tournaments.

There were a total of 17 titles up for grabs and Neil Eden became the men’s singles champion with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against 13-year-old Kyle Hardy.

There was also disappointment in the boys’ Under-18 final for Hardy as he suffered a 6-4, 7-6 loss against Joshua Clements.

Ruth Bell was victorious in the ladies’ singles as she overcame Jane Saha 6-4, 6-2, while the ladies’ doubles was won by Jill McCluskey and Claire Barrett as they beat Ros Edwards and Bell 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.

In the men’s doubles Roger Lane and David Newland defeated Jonathan Ross and Anthony Tasgal 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, while the mixed doubles saw Phil Apostolou and McCluskey crowned champions with a win over Oliver Temple and Ora Ruth Rother.

Len Siskind retained the Over-35 title with a straight sets win against Lane and John Barnett won the Over-55 event, defeating Ulf Ehrenmark 6-1, 6-2.

Bertie Shelly and Ollie Shirbini claimed the boys’ doubles, while the boys’ Under-16 winner was George Kevorkian.

Luke Bryan was crowned Under-12 and Under-10 champion, Dan Hussein was also victorious in the Under-14 competition, with Gabriella Hristozova securing the Under-18 and Under-14 title. Isabella Dawlatly was victorious in the Girls’ Under-12.

The club are holding lessons for all ages from three years old and upwards.
