Janet Bream closing in on singles titles record at Potters Bar Lawn Tennis Club

Janet Bream claimed her fifth ladies’ singles title after overcoming Alison Alcock in straight sets at Potters Bar Lawn Tennis Club’s 61st Club Tournament.

With victory at Saturday’s event Bream, who recorded a 6-4, 6-1 win, is now the club’s second most successful female singles champion, only beaten by June White, who won six singles titles between 1969 and 1976.

In the men’s singles final, Potters Bar coach Karl Mills secured his 15th club title with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Mark Masters.

The duo then joined forces but lost out 6-3, 6-4 in the men’s doubles final to Ben Bream and Paul Holman.

Janet Bream played with Elaine Dowdall in the ladies’ doubles final and beat their opponents, Sue Hanton and Virginia Mash, 6-3, 6-1.

In the mixed doubles final, Holman and Rebecca Hamilton come out on top with a 6-3, 7-6 victory against opponents Sue Branch and Simon Eaves-Bunce.
