Director of rugby Mark McCall hailed his side's 45-0 thrashing of Edinburgh at Murrayfield in the Heineken Cup on Saturday as "vitally important".

Five tries saw the Men in Black cruise past a lacklustre Edinburgh outfit who were never in contention to win the match.

McCall admitted tricky games are yet to come in the competition but insisted wins on the road are all-important.

“The history of this competition shows that away wins are vitally important, so to get the away win with a bonus point was huge to us," McCall said.

"We have a difficult game against Racing next week. It’s the pivotal game in the group, but this was a great start for us.

“Credit to our players because I thought they did a really good job. We were difficult to play against.

"What pleased me was that we kicked on and played some really good rugby in the second half. We scored some good tries and a lot of our players played really well today.”

Saracens will be hoping to build on their strong start in the Heineken Cup when they make another away trip, this time to Brussels where they take on Racing Metro on Saturday.
