At the end of the 2009/2010 campaign, young striker Jake Hyde left Barnet. It was a season which had yielded seven goals for the 19-year-old and a 21st-place finish in League Two for the Bees.

After a spell in Scotland with Dundee, Hyde returned to Underhill in the summer and, despite the club’s poor start, believes there are “better players” at the Bees this time around.

Hyde has made 19 appearances this season, scoring five goals and like his first spell at Barnet, the club are currently battling at the bottom of the table.

However, the 22-year-old believes the Bees squad is strong enough to push up the division under Mark Robson and Edgar Davids.

He said: “When I was here last time I was a lot younger and I was just happy to be involved.

“We had a more experienced team but now I feel we have got a younger side but better players.

“Everyone is really hungry here and I feel we have a good chance of doing something this season.

“Obviously we have had a poor start but the squad we have is a big one and I honestly believe we can go forward and have a good season.”

Hyde has featured as a lone striker for the majority of the campaign – a role he admits can be difficult and lonely.

But the frontman feels his time in Scotland and the opportunity to play first-team football has improved his game.

Hyde explained: “I’ve developed massively and have got a lot more experience. You only get that from playing games and you learn your position more.

“I have grown physically as well and filled out because when I was here last time I was only 19 years old.

“So the experience of playing games is important and I now I feel that I am an age where I can bring more to the team than I did back last time I was here.”

Hyde’s five goals for the Bees this season makes him the club’s top scorer. When asked if he had set himself a target, he answered: “I haven’t set myself a fixed number, I want to just score as many goals as I can.

“Whether that is playing up front on my own or as part of a front two then I just want to take the chances that come to me.

“So I haven’t set myself a total that I want to hit because I just want to get as many as I can.”
