Martin Allen says there has been “lots” of interest but no bids for Keanu Marsh-Brown, whilst the Bees are in talks to sign experienced midfielder Gavin Mahon.

Marsh-Brown, 21, was left out of Tuesday night’s 5-1 defeat at the hands of Championship new-boys Brentford as a precautionary measure after suffering from a tight thigh ahead of the game.

The former Yeovil Town wideman was made available for transfer at the end of last season in order to help raise funds to help strengthen the squad but with just over two weeks until the Conference season begins, the former Fulham trainee remains at The Hive.

Speaking after Tuesday’s loss against Brentford, Allen confirmed there had been interested in last season’s 11-goal second-highest scorer.

“[There’s been] lots of interest but as yet nothing has actually been agreed and no offers have actually come in that I’m aware of,” revealed Allen.

“Keanu came in yesterday [Monday] with a tight thigh, maybe he could have played, but my policy on it is, you have to be fit to play. We can’t afford thigh strains at that kind of stuff at this stage of the season, so he was rested and having treatment today [Tuesday].”

One player who could join the Bees is former Watford and Queens Park Rangers enforcer, Gavin Mahon.

The 37-year-old midfielder, who spent last season with Tamworth and Portsmouth, has impressed on trial during pre-season, featuring in all but one of the Bees friendly matches so far.

Brought back into the side against Brentford on Tuesday evening after sitting out the Luton Town defeat on Sunday, Mahon was the only trialist involved, skippering the side, and Allen is hopeful of concluding a deal for the Birmingham-born midfielder.

“We’re chatting with Gav at the moment about getting a deal signed and hopefully that will get done this week,” confirmed Allen.

Mahon spent the first half of last season with Portsmouth in League Two but made just two starts and one substitute appearance before moving closer to home to join Tamworth for the remainder of the campaign.

A veteran of more than 500 career appearances, Mahon has captained Watford to promotion and in the Premier League and has also turned out for QPR, Brentford, Notts County and Stevenage in the Football League.

Allen and Mahon have previously worked together for a season at Notts County in League One.
