All of Barnet’s good work against Telford United was undone in the 93rd minute. The Bees had battled their way in front before conceding a stoppage time equaliser. The contest ended in a 2-2 draw.

At half time Barnet were a goal down – following a Tony Gray penalty - and had played very poorly. But a second period fight-back ensued.

First Lee Cook levelled with sumptuous finish from distance. And then Elliot Johnson touched home from close range to complete the turnaround.

However, in the 93rd minute, Telford grabbed a point as Mike Phenix powerfully headed into the corner at the back post.

There was one change made to the Barnet side which had started in the win over Dover Athletic on Wednesday.

Club captain Charlie McDonald missed out due to injury and was replaced in the side by Luke Gambin.

The Bees went into the contest on the back of five consecutive wins but they were very poor during the opening 45 minutes.

Telford created the first two opportunities of the match but both Gray and Andy Owens’ shots cleared the crossbar and ended outside of the stadium.

Barnet’s best chance of the half came from Gambin. Luisma Villa clipped a cross to the back-post and the winger drifted inside his marked but his header was mistimed and the Bucks defence were able to clear.

The hosts then took control of the half and the Bees defence looked unusually shaky.

Telford should’ve taken the lead when Josh O’Keefe connected with a cross 12 yards out, but his header drifted just wide of Graham Stack’s post.

However, seven minutes before the interval the Bucks did break the deadlock.

A corner was cleared to the edge of the box and Gray’s volley smashed into the arm of Gambin from close range. A penalty was, slightly harshly, awarded.

Gray stepped up and coolly sent Stack the wrong way from the spot. It was a lead the hosts deserved and one they held onto until the interval.

After the restart, Barnet immediately had more urgency in possession. An early corner was won and Bondz N’Gala powered a header over the crossbar from Villa’s cross.

Telford continued to look dangerous and they had the ball in the net for a second time.

Gray’s volley from the edge of the area was brilliantly saved by Stack but the rebound was touched in by O’Keefe. Fortunately for the Bees, the midfielder was offside.

Allen decided to make a double change nine minutes after the restart. Adam Mekki and Jon Nurse replaced Gambin and Villa.

It freshened up the Barnet attack and the Bees should have been awarded a penalty when Mekki’s shot was fired into the arms of a defender.

It was almost an exact copy of the incident which led to Telford’s spot kick. However, on this occasion the referee waved away the appeals.

The Bees continued to battle. Andy Yiadom almost levelled with a fine strike from 30 yards which just curled wide of the post.

Cook had certainly not had best best game in a Barnet shirt but, in the 69th minute, he showed his true quality with a stunning goal.

The ball fell to the winger 20 yards out and he unleashed an unstoppable shot into the corner of Jonathan Hedge’s goal.

Telford’s attacking threat, which had caused Barnet so many problems in the opening period, had all but disappeared.

The Bucks were hanging on as the Bees piled forward. Johnson created a great chance for Akinde but the striker could only hook his effort from six yards over the crossbar.

But, with ten minutes remaining, Barnet took the lead. The ball fell to Johnson on the edge of the penalty area and the full back steered a volley towards goal.

Hedge got down and parried the effort. A goalmouth scrambled, involving Jon Nurse, followed and the ball broke to Johnson who guided his shot into the net from a tight angle.

The final stages saw Barnet come under pressure. Telford had the ball in the net through Andy Todd but the goal was ruled out for offside.

However, in the dying moments, Telford equalised. A cross to the back post was met by Phenix and he powerfully headed past the helpless Stack to earn the hosts a point.

Barnet remain top of the table and the Bees will hope to get back to winning ways when they take on Wrexham on Tuesday night.
