Barnet head coach Martin Allen has confirmed his intention to extend the loan deals of Bernard Mensah and David Hunt when they expire in the new year.

Watford striker Mensah is currently on loan at The Hive until January 5, whilst Oxford United utility man Hunt sees his loan deal finish at the end of January.

However Allen has expressed his desire to tie the duo to new deals with the Bees ahead of the January transfer window opening in 48 hours’ time.

Asked after Sunday’s 2-2 draw at home to Dover Athletic if he would like to retain the pair in the new year, Allen replied: “Yes, we want to keep both of them.”

As one of the experienced members of the playing squad, Hunt has played an important role off the field as well as on it, and was seen in deep conversation with Allen and player-coach Jon Nurse at the back of the East Stand throughout Sunday’s draw.

The 32-year-old has featured predominantly in midfield, making five substitute outings and three starts since joining at the end of October.

Striker Mensah has scored twice since joining at the beginning of November, but has made just one start and seven substitute appearances.
