With two games in three days against struggling sides, the Conference title picture could become clearer by Monday and Barnet goalkeeper Graham Stack has issued a rallying cry to his teammates ahead of the final push.

The Bees were hit by a sucker-punch equaliser at Alfreton Town on Saturday to deny them all three points in a 1-1 draw and, more significantly, the insurance policy of a three-point lead over Bristol Rovers at the Conference summit.

With the Gas held to a goalless draw at Macclesfield Town earlier in the day, the consequences of the draw were not disastrous, with Martin Allen’s side still holding a one-point lead at the summit.

The Easter schedule sees 21st-placed Nuneaton Town visit The Hive on Saturday before the Bees make the short hop around the M25 to take on second-bottom Dartford on Bank Holiday Monday.

Both sides have already been dispatched by Barnet this season and player-coach Stack insists there is no reason the Bees will not finish the job and win promotion back to the Football League.

He said: “We are still top of the league; it is still in our hands, we still remain very positive. The group we have got, the quality we have, the togetherness and the spirit we have got will shine through at the weekend. We have got two big games and we are all looking forward to them now, we want to put it right.

“[It is now] needs must. It is whatever it takes now, it does not matter how you do it. Long throws, deflected goals or own goals; we need to find a way to get over the line.”

He added: “With the group we have got and the manager we have got, we have done it all season, so there is no reason we can’t do it for the next five games. We are more than capable and belief is still riding high in the camp.”

Saturday’s draw at North Street was the second away trip in succession to end on a sour note after a last-gasp equaliser at FC Halifax Town denied Barnet a priceless three points last month.

However, Stack is not unduly concerned. He said: “Over the course of the season it happens. It has happened to Bristol Rovers and Grimsby Town; they have lost points late on. Grimsby were 2-0 up at Chester and drew 2-2.

“It will happen between now and the end of the season – hopefully it is not us again – but it will happen between the top three teams. There will be last-minute goals and they will cost teams wins, draws, the lot.

“Nothing is easy in this league; everyone should know that now from the season we have had. There is just not an easy place to go to and even at home, teams will come and make it difficult for us to break them down.”

And in spite of the late heartbreak in north Derbyshire, the former Arsenal gloveman believes the Bees are dealing with the pressure of being top just fine.

He said: “We are top of the league so if anyone is going to be able to deal with it (pressure), it is us. We have dealt with it since day one. Of course there is pressure; we are trying to win a title. Of course there is pressure but it is how you deal with it.

“We are four games unbeaten going into the Easter period with two winnable games and hopefully [we will come out the other side] with six points.

“Let’s see where we are in eight days time. Hopefully we are still top with three games to go.”
