Barnet have made experienced striker Kevin Lisbie their third summer signing following his release by Leyton Orient, as The Times Series reported on Wednesday.

Lisbie, 36, joins the Bees on a one-year deal after falling down the pecking order at Brisbane Road last season, scoring twice in just five league starts as the O’s tumbled out of League One.

The Hackney-born striker netted 46 times in 97 league starts for Orient after joining in 2011 and became a fans’ favourite at Brisbane Road.

Speaking to the club website, Lisbie said: “After speaking to the manager about what the team achieved last season and what he wants to do next year it was a no-brainer for me. I wanted to be a part of it and hopefully I can help the club achieve some good things next year.

“League Two will be a bit different so I think the team will need that little bit of experience. It is a long campaign so I would hope to be able to help the lads both on and off the pitch.

“I am looking to bring my knowledge and my experience to help other people score goals but at the same time I am a striker, so I will obviously be looking to score plenty of goals myself.

“I had a difficult time last year so I am just happy to get a fresh start and have the chance to get playing again.”

In 2013/14 Lisbie scored 16 times in 38 league starts before losing in the Play-Off Final to Rotherham United on penalties, missing out on a return to the Championship.

And it was with the O's Lisbie caught head coach Martin Allen's eye: “I saw Kevin play sixteen months ago for Orient at Brisbane Road and he was the outstanding player on the pitch and came off to a standing ovation.

“It is not often that I go to a football match and clap a substitute coming off - but he scored one, he made one, he played with energy and enthusiasm and linked up the play well. As he walked off most of the Orient players gave him a high-five as he left the field of play.

“We have got a good player and I am delighted that he has signed for us.”

Lisbie began his professional career with Charlton Athletic and made more than 100 appearances for the Addicks – a number of which came in the Premier League – before joining Colchester United in 2007.

He wasted no time settling into life in Essex and after netting 17 times in 39 league starts for the U’s, earned a £600,000 switch to Ipswich Town in 2008 following Colchester’s relegation.

But he could not replicate his form in Suffolk and was loaned back to Colchester the following season – scoring 13 in 40 – before a loan stint with Millwall in 2010/11.

And that summer he joined Orient, registering 12 times in his maiden campaign. A return of 16 in each of his next two seasons saw him became a firm favourite at Brisbane Road.

However, a combination of injury and the managerial merry-go-round at the club saw him fall out of favour last term, scoring twice in just five league starts prior to his departure.

A full Jamaican international, Lisbie has represented the Reggae Boyz on ten occasions, scoring twice.
