Midfielder Sam Togwell says it is good to be back in the Football League after signing a one-year extension to remain with Barnet next season.

The midfield enforcer, 30, made 45 appearances in all competitions last season, establishing himself as a key component in Martin Allen's side.

Speaking the club website, Togwell said: “I’m really happy it’s been sorted and we can now look forward to pushing on with a successful season in League Two.”

“I’ve played league football for my entire career; last season was my first outside of the top four tiers so it feels great to be back. It’s a good place to be, with bigger stadiums and larger crowds.”

“I believe that with the majority of the squad we had last year, plus the new additions to the team, there is no reason why we can’t push ourselves up toward the top regions of League Two.”

“I’m delighted with the amount I played last season, and I’m hoping to get a similar amount of appearances in the upcoming campaign. It will be tougher in League Two but I fully back myself to play at this level, I’ve played in over 400 games throughout my career and I feel I’ve got the experience to deal with it.”

Head coach Allen added: “I’m delighted he’s put pen to paper. He’s a key player on and off the field and is another champion in our squad.”

Togwell missed just four Conference fixtures last season after joining the Bees following his release by Chesterfield.

The former Crystal Palace, Barnsley and Scunthorpe United man leaves David Stephens and Jon Nurse as the only players not to have committed to the club for next season.
