Barnet assistant Gary Waddock missed Tuesday’s League Cup exit against Wolverhampton Wanderers after being taken ill on the way back from Saturday’s defeat at Bristol Rovers.
The former Queens Park Rangers and Aldershot Town boss returned to The Hive as Martin Allen’s assistant for a second spell after Adrian Whitbread left to coach Puerto Rico.
However, Waddock was then taken ill in his first match back alongside Allen after Barnet went down 3-1 at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Such was the severity of his condition, the former Republic of Ireland international was forced to miss the trip to Molineux on Tuesday.
Speaking to the club website, Allen said:“To let everybody know; immediately after the game in Bristol last week he was taken ill on the team coach.
“We took him to a hospital in Reading and he was seriously ill – he couldn’t walk, talk, eat or drink.
“He was in a bad way and we were all very worried about his condition, and he spent three nights in hospital.
“He got the all-clear on Wednesday morning and came home – he had an inner ear infection.”
Waddock has since been released from hospital but will not be joining Allen on the bench imminently.
“I had a chat with him on the phone after the Wolves game,” explained the Bees boss.
“I don’t know how long he’ll need for rehab and to get the strength in his body back.
“We have taken him on, but I’m not sure how long it’s going to be before he can continue after his illness.”
