Striker Kevin Lisbie has, as expected, left Barnet by mutual consent after making just four substitute appearances.

The Times Series learned yesterday the experienced striker would leave The Hive this week and the news was confirmed by the club this afternoon.

Lisbie joined from Leyton Orient in May but injury restricted him to just four outings, the last of which came at Cambridge United on December 28.

He has reached an agreement with the club over the remaining six months of his contract and leaves the Bees as a free agent.

The 37-year-old told the club's website: "We've decided to part company - it's been a frustrating time for me here.

"But I have enjoyed my time at Barnet. "The manager's been really good to me and the chairman's been good to me as well.

"I feel like at my age I need to be playing first team football.

"So I'm hoping to go elsewhere and do exactly that."

Speaking earlier today, head coach Martin Allen told the Times Series: "I've had a chat with Kevin. At the moment we've got five centre-forwards and that's too many.

“I've explained it to Kevin. Saying that, Aaron McLean hasn't yet signed a new contract. That's all being monitored. At the moment no decisions have been made.

"But of course, with the fact he's not playing, we are open [to the possibility of him leaving].

“He's a great lad, a brilliant professional. Of course he'd like to be playing but he respects that John Akinde and Aaron McLean have been superb – apart from one game.

"So there maybe something to done but as it is at the moment, nothing has been confirmed."

Lisbie was injured in the final game of a pre-season at Eastleigh and a hamstring injury which it was initially hoped would rule him out for a matter of weeks took months to heel.

Allen admitted he had been rushed back after making his debut for the club as a substitute in the 2-1 home loss to Accrington Stanley in October but made just three more appearances.
