Martin Allen felt Barnet's 1-0 win over promotion-chasing Plymouth Argyle was a milestone after telling his players being goalless at half time didn’t mean they’d done well.

The Pilgrims, who are trying to hunt down League Two leaders Northampton Town while bolstering their own position in second, succumbed to Andy Yiadom’s goal in the 69th minute.

Derek Adams’ side enjoyed more possession and territory but were caught out by a well-worked goal against the run of play.

Barnet’s confidence grew from that point on and they might well have added to their tally before closing out another impressive win.

Allen refused to limit his ambition to a draw with the West Country outfit, though, and said afterwards: “I said to the players at half time, just because they’re second in the league doesn’t mean you’ve done well to come in at 0-0.

“I don’t care where they are in the league – top or wherever – go out and show we’re better than we showed.

“I don’t care if people are saying: ‘It would be a good result to get a draw’. I don’t believe in that.

“Let’s take everybody on, let’s have it with everybody. We’ve got enough good players; enough game winners.”

Barnet have now beaten Portsmouth and Plymouth in consecutive midweek matches at The Hive.

The Bees were unlucky to lose the away games against both teams earlier in the season.

Asked if those wins highlighted the club’s improvement since then, Allen replied: “We thoroughly deserved to beat them as well.

"It wasn’t like Saturday where we were hanging on. The players have been well drilled enough to play out and keep clean sheets.

“I think it is a milestone. The away game down at Plymouth we were superb and got nothing.

"Tonight I thought we thoroughly deserved to win the game – I don’t think anyone could argue with that.”
